allie michelle: changing your life through travel

allie michelle is a visual storyteller and writer sharing her story with the intention of growth and compassion. after globetrotting for a year, she believes that the journey is truly the destination, and the key to living an empowered life is making it a journey within. she is a certified yoga instructor and creator of online yoga courses; moving meditation.

how did you begin traveling, and how has it changed your perspective on life? "I had dreamed of traveling my whole life. one day I was on a hike with my friend alex, and at the time, it was my dream to see bali. we figured out how much we needed to save, and a month later we had a one-way ticket. I believe that travel is the best education. It has taught me to allow life to simply flow through me instead of me trying to resist or control it. It kicks you out of your comfort zone and pushes you to be fully alive. there are a million different ways of living, and no one way is the “right” way. travel reignites a fire within me to see places and to understand simply through the art of being. you will always find the best stories in between the pages of a passport."

how does traveling empower you as a woman? "traveling has empowered me as a woman in every way. I have always been naturally more introverted, but it has taught me that you are all that you need if you believe in yourself and your infinite capabilities. there are moments when you’re alone in a sticky situation and you have to rely on pure instinct. there are just certain places that are more challenging to be in as a woman traveling alone. It is hard because you are entering as a visitor in another culture, and there is a line between being respectful of that, and taking care of yourself. believe in your own strength, and research everything before you go."

your advice for female travelers, and women with wanderlust "wherever you go, there you are. you can surf the crystal blue waters of the maldives or hike to the tallest waterfall in indonesia and still not feel fulfilled inside. making your mind a happy home is the key to having the best travel experience. when you realize that you have your own back and are capable of absolutely anything in this life, the challenges that are thrown your way become part of the colorful story that is you. pick a place in the world. figure out exactly what you need to get there. have the nerve to make your life as spectacular and beautiful as the dreams that dance through your mind."
